Creative Anchors: Grounding Through Art in Times of Emotional Overwhelm
Structure
• I. Opening & Psychological Safety Framing (15 minutes)
Introduce the longer format, check in with color/image, and establish group agreements.
• II. Sequential Grounding & Art Prompts (3 Rounds, 20 minutes each)
Each round combines a grounding technique with a gentle art prompt for deep exploration.
• - Round One
Grounding: 5-4-3-2-1 | Art: What Does Today Feel Like in Color?
• - Round Two
Grounding: Movement as Brushstrokes | Art: The Scribble Safe Space
Using a verbal prompt and music, will begin to learn to express in color what they’re feeling.
Wrap up with group discussion on takeaways from the session. Giving out of informational handouts.

• - Round Three-Begins 2nd Hour
Grounding: Object Holding + Body Scan | Art: Tear and Rebuild Collage
Using words on paper that is both printed and handwritten, pictures and words from magazines and books.
These items will be used by participants to add to the painting that they have just completed the previous hour.
• III. Integration & Reflection (30 minutes)
Group or written reflection on favorite tools, and creation of a personal reminder on how they can express and manage their feelings and thoughts.
• IV. Resource Sharing & Closing (15 minutes)
Distribute handouts, suggest personal practices, and close with a visualization or breath practice.
